It Takes A Village
SoCal Guinea Pig Rescue is an entirely volunteer run rescue which operates out of our own homes.
Meaning, we do not have a central rescue center, we are not paid employees and are not funded by the government or any higher organization.
We rely solely on fundraising efforts and donations.

The rescue was founded by Valerie W, Annie B and Kit B.
After spending decades in the small animal rescue world, volunteering, fostering, transporting and seeing the realities of animal rescue, they decided to form SCGPR.

Being involved in rescue for so many years prior to forming SCGPR, meant that they had built strong connections and community with fellow dedicated volunteers.
These fellow volunteers would help form the foundation of our rescue.

When we say it takes a village, we mean it. We absolutely could not help the number of guinea pigs that we have, had it not been for our SCGPR family opening their hearts and homes.

Our team is absolutely the best around and are comprised of caring people from a variety of ages, backgrounds, careers and lifestyles.

One of our biggest goals when starting the rescue, was to be a support at the shelter level, in addition to taking guinea pigs into our rescue.
Having been volunteers ourselves in municipal city and county animal shelters, we know the struggles and needs of those volunteers and are committed to supporting them.

SCGPR also works closely with other rescues in SoCal. Because of the sheer number of unwanted guinea pigs in our area, we often work with them to get animals to safety.

The work we do is extremely difficult. We give up space in our homes, we dedicate time to transport, care, cleaning, answering countless messages, trips back and forth to the vet, screening adopters and fosters.
We see and experience heartbreak on a level than most can't fathom.
It is because of our SCGPR family and the support of the community that we can continue.
These animals need us, and together we will continue our mission.
